About Mrs. Van Norman
Hello! I am glad you came to find out more about me.
I started my educational career by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Michigan State University. At the time my plan was to get my Master’s degree in Child Psychology, but in the end I felt I would have a more powerful impact on childrens' lives as an educator. I then began to pursue teacher certification.
I received my teacher certification from Olivet College in December 2001. My certification is kindergarten thru eighth grade all subjects (self-contained) and sixth thru eighth grade, English and Social Studies. During my student teaching, I also paid for and completed K-2 Michigan Literacy Progress Profile (MLPP) training. I have also completed LIFT training (grades 3 thru 6) at Ingham ISD in May of 2003. In 2009, I completed certification for Struggling Readers (6-12). I believe reading and all of its many aspects to be the foundation for all learning.
I earned my Masters in Reading and Literacy from Walden University in December of 2006. I love reading and writing!!!
I have since completed 30 additional graduate credits beyond my Master's degree and a slew of other professional development opportunities. In 2014, I transitioned from teaching English and S.T.A.R.S. to teaching Social Studies 6. I am excited to integrate my love for reading, writing, and technology into the Social Studies 6 content area.
I love learning. I love technology. I love teaching. Here's to a great year!
